Measuring the Winds of Change: A State-of-the-Art Report of the PG Programmes and Placement in LIS (with special reference to DLIS, NU, Nagpur)

Abstract

The paper visualizes the impact of Globalisation on Higher Education in general, and LIS (faculty of social science) in particular. The paper, stresses on the current realities in the light of globalization by presenting a statistical review of the Universities, its students, and the changing ratios. Further, the paper stresses on the basic concepts of GATS, and its implications on the services included in the agreement. The present paper is an attempt to evaluate the PG programme and the placement scenario of DLIS through a survey based on the documentary sources, and Library and Information Science Alumni of the Nagpur University. The article, highlights the areas of concern and put forths certain recommendations and measures revitalizing LIS education and professionals to face the new global scenario confidently.
