Abstract This paper aims to assess the impact and influence of leadership and innovation on libraries of the future by evaluating view points of respondents through a questionnaire based survey supported by theory and previous empirical results. The paper theoretically addresses two key concepts, ‘leadership’ and ‘innovation’ and their impact on libraries of future. It attempts to gather the views of respondents in order to evaluate their perception on leadership and innovation and on how these two concepts can bring see changes in the systems and services of the libraries of future. On the platform of earlier empirical studies, a questionnaire was structured and administered among the LIS practitioners, who were the registered participants of an international conference on the theme, ‘libraries of the future: emerging trends’. The collected data was scrutinized and fed into MS Excel file for analysis and subsequent interpretation. SPSS was used for statistical interpretation of gathered data. The study finds that leadership and innovation are crucial for augmenting systems and services of academic library system. Absolute majority of respondents express their readiness for introduction of innovative services. In the similar vein, more than half of the respondents opine in favor of formulation of new strategies in rendering innovative services to users’ community for promoting a novel trend of information acquisition, processing and dissemination in the days ahead. Taken together the results of investigation and previous empirical results, the study offers practical and theoretic contributions for the all-round growth of knowledge hubs, information industry, economics, business and academics.
