Seroprevalence of Sarcocystis species infection in goats of Nagpur district of Maharashtra Jumde Pratibha, Bhilegaonkar N.G., Kolte S.W. Department of Veterinary Parasitology, Nagpur Veterinary College, Maharashtra Animal & Fishery Sciences University, Nagpur-4400006 (M.S.) Online published on 18 December, 2018. Abstract In present study seroprevalence of sarcocystosis in naturally infected goats was undertaken. Sarcocystis sp. cystozoite antigen was prepared from the heavily infected oesophageal muscles of naturally infected goats. Hyperimmune serum were raised against the antigen in rabbits. The antigenic specificity was assessed in 60 goats by Double Immunodifussion test (DID) and Indirect Haemagglutination test (IHA). The precipitation line in DID test was obtained in serum after 7 days of hperimmunization of rabbits. In IHA test, out of the 60 serum samples of goats tested, 48 goats (80%) were seropositive. The IHA test showed titres ranging from 1: 2 to 1: 512. The low titres were seen in 24 animals; in 18 animals titres were moderate, while 6 animals showed high titres. Prevalence of Sarcocystis sp. by tissue press method and isolation of microsarcocysts from musculature was recorded as 56.25 per cent. The incidence was highest in month of November (90%) and lowest in March (30%). Older animals (above 1 Year) showed higher incidence than younger animals (below 1 Year). Incidence was almost same in both male and females. Tissue wise prevalence was highest in the oesophageal muscles followed by diaphragm, tongue, heart and lowest in the intercostals muscles.
