E-mail: kandayath@rediffmail.com Abstract Ectoparasites of livestock cause great economic loss being pests as well as vectors of various diseases. Till recently, several chemicals including hydrocarbons and organophosphates were commonly used. Not only many of these compounds are toxic to animals, but also cause environmental pollution and pose the problem of arthropod resistance. To overcome these deleterious effects, pyrethroids were found to be safer alternative as well as effective ectoparasiticides. In this communication, the efficacy and the period of protection provided by two pyrethroids, Sumicidin and Butox at different concentrations against natural infestation of ixodid ticks of cattle and ticks, lice and fleas of sheep and goats were assessed. Top Keywords Ectoparasiticide, Sumicidin, Butox, Synthetic pyrethroids. Top |
