Abstract The study was conducted in randomly selected, predominantly Gujjar inhabited four blocks of Jammu & Kashmir state to fnd out the constraints perceived by them in adopting improved animal husbandry practices. The study revealed that the majority of respondents were middle aged, with poor education, small landholding and poor social participation. Majority of respondents were involved in caste occupation having large herd size, poor extension contacts and mass media exposure. However, they fared well in terms of risk orientation and economic motivation. The most important constraints faced by the Gujjars were lack of fnance for improved management practices, high cost of feed supplement/mineral mixture, lack of good breeding stock, and non availability of veterinary facilities.
