Continuous excessive stress causes harm to physical health, mental health and academic performance and may affect general lifestyle. This cross sectional study was conducted in preclinical BDS students of a Dental college in Delhi, to identify the stress causing factors and possible measures to combat stress. This study included 100 BDS students, 50 each from Ist and 2nd year. Students were asked to write down their problems in a sheet of paper without disclosing their identity. The results have shown that the most leading stress in both Ist yr and 2nd yr BDS students is load of the course followed by speed of the teaching. Other issues that came across were feeling of rejection, less leisure time for students, unhealthy canteen food, and poor financial backup. All these factors can add to depression and lead to poor academic performance. Therefore it is necessary to have regular counselling classes for preclinical students. Supportive attitude of faculty members towards students is of paramount importance. Top Keywords Combat Stress, Paramount Importance. Top |
