To study The eating Habit of the Fifth Standard of MCD Primary School Children of South Delhi

Abstract

Objective

The eating habit of the fifth standard of MCD primary school children of south Delhi.

Design

Cross sectional study.

Method

This study has been carried out in two MCD primary schools (both morning and evening shifts) in the age group of 9–15 years of both sexes of Zakir Nagar and Okhla village, Jamia Nagar, New Delhi, India. The Data was collected in 180 children in two stages after research and ethical committee clearance, in the pre-teaching assessment by WHO structured with informed consent from school authority and parent of study group questionnaire in local language. At the end of 30 days in post teaching assessment by health workers with same questionnaire was done after providing dental health education for one hour.

Results

The eating habit of the sweet things by doctors and health workers regularly and occasionally were 52.22% and 47.78% in pre teaching assessment respectively while 34.44% and 65.56% in post teaching assessment respectively. The use of oral hygiene aid of mouthwash, toothpicks, dental floss and don't use above things were 4.44%, 53.89%, 2.22% and 39.44% in pre teaching assessment respectively while 6.67%, 66.67%, 3.33% and 23.33% in post teaching assessment respectively.

Conclusion

There was significant improvement in the knowledge about the eating habit of sweets and use of oral hygiene aid like mouth wash, tooth pick and dental floss by teaching to the children.
