Use of electronic resources by the post-graduate students of department of sociology, BHU: A survey

Abstract

Universities are attempting to play a significant role in research and development. During the last few decades, developments in computer applications and the Internet have brought in a massive transformation. The availability of library information resources and services is a substantial factor in the research process. Postgraduate students are essential producers of research in universities, and access to information isa vitalpart oftheirresearch process.Thisstudyinvestigatespostgraduate students'perceptions of access, awareness, and usage in aiding their research and their contentment with the current sources and services available. The survey was done using a standardized questionnaire given to 110 Banaras Hindu University P.G. students, with 96 dully completed questionnaires returned, giving a total response rate of 87.27 percent. The investigation shows that post-graduate students are aware of e-resources and their various kinds, including e-databases and e-journals. The basic concept of electronic resources, types of e-resources, and findings related to awareness, frequency of use, level of use, location of access, time spent on access, level of satisfaction, the device used for access, the purpose of use, advantage, and barriers of eresources are all discussed in this paper. In addition, users’ suggestions are evaluated and collected to improve e-resource use and access further.
