Online published on 25 April, 2016. Abstract Callus cultures obtained from three varieties of maize viz. ‘Malan ’, ‘Ganga-5 ’and ‘VL-42 ’were screened for their response towards toxin extracts of Helminthosporium maydis and H. turcicum. The variety ‘Malan ’showed susceptibility towards both the pathogens whereas variety ‘Ganga-5 ’showed fairly good resistance/tolerance to H. maydis as compared to H. turcicum. However, variety ‘VL-42 ’showed resistance to the toxic extracts of H. Turcicum while it was found susceptible to H. maydis. Callus cultures provided good system and could be applied for large-scale screening of germplasm. Top Keywords Callus, germplasm, in vitro screening, pathotoxins. Top |
