Abstract

Twenty faba bean (Vicia faba L.) genotypes were evaluated during rabi seasons of 2015–16 and 2016–17 for twelve yield and attributing traits with an objective to determine the extent of variability in faba bean genotypes and the relationship between yield and other characters. Seed yield have significant correlation with all the traits except 100seed weight (g), indicating that breeding for yield attributes significantly affect yield in these genotypes. Stepwise multiple regression analysis indicated that number of pods per plant and days to maturity play significant role in determining seed yield in faba beans. The three principal components with eigen values greater than one contributed 75.20% of the total variability amongst twenty faba bean genotypes evaluated. There is an ample scope for improvement of yield and other associated characters especially, number of branches per plant, number of pods per plant and pod width in faba bean. These traits should be used while selecting elite genotypes of fababeans.
