Abstract

The daytime distribution of Bledius (Hesperophilus) helferi Fauvel was examined on the sandy beaches of Sagar Island in Hooghly estuary. Substratum temperature and moisture of the littoral belt were the determining factors for habitat selection in all the seasons. The mostly preferred temperature range to B. (H.) helferi was 31.0–31.9°C and that of moisture was 20.0–20.9%. Role of moisture was more critical than temperature in habitat selection for this beetle.
