Abstract Old age is the closing period of the life span. It is a period when people ‘move away’ from previous more desirable periods or times of ‘usefulness’. The present study was conducted in three cultural zones of Punjab. An equal number of males and females were taken from three cultural zones. A total of 150 respondents was randomly selected. The findings revealed that more than half of the respondents belonged to the age group of 60–70 years, were illiterate (47.33%), had family size of 6–8 members (57.33%) and engaged in agriculture (49.33%). In the total sample, 57.33 per cent of the respondents were not working at present while 42.66 were working. Furthermore majority (74%) of the respondents spend their time by gossiping with friends. Regarding interpersonal relations, males had very cordial relations with grandchildren while female had very cordial relations with daughters.
