Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar Abstract Micronutrients play very important role in our daily diet. Hidden hunger caused by the deficiency in the diet is one of the serious problem. A durable and sustainable solution to this problem lies in the improvement and diversification of household diets. Opportunities can be offered by small scale vegetable and fruit production to improve micronutrient status thus efforts were made by AICRP FN unit to establish model nutrition garden and convince rural families for it in the adopted villages. The results revealed that 15 families agreed to put the plan into action by establishing nutrition garden, a significant increase was seen in the intake of micronutrients as calcium and iron intake increased after the intervention period. Marginal improvement was seen in case of anthropometric measurements of both women and adolescent girls. Thus establishment of nutrition garden encouraged selected women members and their families as community mobilizers for ensuring livelihood and food and nutrition security. Top | |
