SARASWATI, A Success Story of Self Help Group's Efforts at Economic Empowerment of Rural Women in Haryana Vashisht Shashi*, Khanna Kumud**, Arora Renu** *SMS, KVK (CCSHAU), Jhajjar, Haryana **Institute of Home Economics, University of Delhi, New Delhi ***Institute of Home Economics, University of Delhi, New Delhi Abstract Self Help Groups (SHGs) are becoming viable tools for economic empowerment of rural women. Swarnajayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojana (SGSY) is the holistic program aimed at empowering rural poor both economically and socially. A study was conducted in district Gurgaon on 18 SHGs with 190 group members. A case study of one SHG - Saraswati was done and the case story is presented here. Success story of the SHG brought to light how the economic empowerment of rural poor women had resulted in poverty alleviation and improved the social status of women. Top | |
