Abstract The adjusted fortnightly test day milk yield records of first three lactations were utilized for estimating the Wood function parameters namely, initial milk yield (a), ascending phase (b) and decline phase (c) in Karan Fries crossbred cows, maintained at cattle farm, NDRI, Karnal (Haryana). Based on these estimated parameters, four types of lactation curve shapes viz. standard type, continuously increasing type, reverse standard type and continuously decreasing type of lactation curve, were identified in the population. The maximum frequency of 73.68% was observed for standard type of lactation curve in the herd. The Wood function was better fit for first lactation records in Karan Fries cows.
