S R Ranganathan: Impact on World Librarianship

1Prithvi Nath Kaula was a Library and Information Sciences specialist and author. Was educated at Benaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi. Joined service as Librarian at Birla Education Trust in Pilani, and shifted to BHU as University Librarian. Served as Professor of Department of LIS and Dean of Faculty of Arts in BHU. Authored about sixty books and monographs, edited six professional journals, and wrote numerous popular articles and papers.

Abstract

An evaluation of the works of Ranganthan by his close associates P N Kaula. Every genius despaired of the response his generation gave. Among the contemporaries acclaim will be by a close minority. The author was on such associate. But serious professionals in Knowledge management area of the present have started appreciating Ranganathan’s work. And the paper gives a bird’s eye view of Ranganthan’s contributions relevant beyond time and space.
