Online published on 2 April, 2016. Abstract An outbreak of contagious agalactia (CA) was investigated with overall morbidity and mortality of 16% (56/350) and 35.71% (20/56), respectively. Affected sheep suffered unexpected onset of arthritis, polyarthritis, chronic joint problems ('big knees’), blindness, agalactia, clinical mastitis and death. Twenty five sheep died with clinical signs of arthritis or mastitis in three weeks period. The clinically diagnosed CA cases were confirmed by PCR analysis for Mycoplasma agalactiae. Ceftriaxone was used to treat the ailing animals along with Tylosin and Meloxicam. No incidence of mortality after treatment, improvement in general body condition as well as return of leukocyte counts, heart rate, respiratory rate and body temperature to normal range confirmed efficacy.
