Abstract

An outbreak of Haemorrhagic Septicaemia was investigated with morbidity of 51 animals (36 buffaloes, 15 cattle) and mortality of 34 animals (28 buffaloes, 6 cattle) over a period of 10 days after exhibiting symptoms of sudden onset of high fever, salivation, bloat and severe respiratory distress. Necropsy revealed edema of head, neck and intermandibular region, frothy and congested trachea, swollen, congested and consolidated lungs showing bronchopneumonia. Sub-serosal petechial hemorrhages were found all over the body. Thoracic and abdominal cavities contained blood tinged fluid along with fibrinous exudates. Trachea was congested and contained froth. All the ailing animals were treated with Enrofloxacin, Meloxicam and corticosteroid for 3 days. Treatment revealed full recovery of ailing animals without any subsequent mortality.
