Abstract

The study was undertaken to assess the role of dietary supplementation of different micronutrients viz. Zinc (Zn) and Copper (Cu), Vitamin A + β-carotene, Vitamin E+ Selenium (Se) and combination of Copper, Zinc, Vitamin E, Selenium, Vitamin A and β-carotene during last two months of dry period (60 days pre-partum) in control of subclinical mastitis in dairy cattle. The effect was assessed on the basis of somatic cell count (SCC) in milk on 10, 20 and 30 days post calving. Out of four dietary supplementation regimen, combination of all six micronutrients resulted in maximum beneficial effect which might be attributed to synergistic/additive effect of micronutrients. Therefore, dietary supplementation of Zn + Cu, Vitamin A + β-carotene and Vitamin E + Se during last 60 days of pre-partums (dry period) could be advocated to control sub-clinical mastitis in dairy cattle.
