Abstract During the period of study of seven months in 172 dead lambs, the post-mortem lesions revealed pulmonary oedema, various types of pneumonia, infarction of liver; pulpy kidneys, various types of enteritis and enlarged, oedematous and haemorrhagic mesenteric lymph nodes. Histologically, suppurative, interstitial, fibrinous, verminous, aspiration and bronchopneumonia and pulmonary adenomatosis (Jaagsiekte) were observed. Mesenteric lymph nodes revealed various pathologies including congestion, depletion of lymphoid cells, oedema, haemorrhages, fibrous tissue proliferation, reactive hyperplasia and lymphoid proliferation. Kidneys showed glomerular nephritis, haemorrhagic glomerulonephritis, parasitic ova and parasite in cystic fluid. Intestine exhibited catarrhal, verminous, haemorrhagic, diphtheritic, necrotic enteritis. Liver lesions included hepatitis, granulomas, abscess, fibrotic nodules and bacterial colonies in portal triad. The mortality of lambs in this region was more due to multiple system affections and due to inflammatory origin majorly followed by non inflammatory origin. Inflammatory origin conditions included inflammation of multiple organs was recorded to be highest. Consulting the veterinarian and adopting prophylactic measures and vaccination against specific infectious diseases would help to overcome lamb mortality in sheep flocks.
