Abstract In the present study histopathological alterations in the nervous tissues of 5 rabid dogs, 6 rabid buffaloes and 8 rabid cows were recorded. There was significant detection of Negri bodies in cerebellum in cows (100%), however, in case of rabid buffaloes and rabid dogs Negri bodies were found in 83.33% and 60% cases respectively. Neuronal degeneration was present in all the cases. Other histopathological alterations reported were satellitosis, gliosis, neuronophagia, edema, congestion, hemorrhage, perivascular cuffing and meningitis.
