Abstract

Squamous cell carcinomas accounts for approximately 5% of cutaneous tumours in the dog. The condition can be diagnosed by cytological examination of aspirates from intact lesions and by biopsy and histopathological examination. A complete digital amputation is curative for benign and well localized malignant tumours, even though the potential metastasis makes it less preferred as the sole treatment in case of malignant tumours. Depending on tumor type, surgery followed by radiation or chemotherapy can be taken as the treatment strategy. A case of subungual squamous cell carcinoma in a 9 year old male Rottweiler dog is reported.
