Abstract

The present study deals with the progressive unresponsive renal failure resulted in systemic uremia and encephalopathy. The clinical, biochemical, postmortem and histopathological studies were made to assess the pathological features in a uremic dog due to bilateral chronic renal failure. The haemogram showed anaemia and blood biochemistry revealed severe uremia with 276 mg/dl urea nitrogen and 18.2 mg/dl serum creatinine. Cerebrospinal fluid revealed pleocytosis (>100 WBC/cu.mm). Grossly, kidney capsule was thickened, the surface showed granular appearance and the brain was edematous. Histopathologically, kidneys revealed severe degeneration, necrosis of tubular epithelial cells and fibrosis.
