Abstract In a research farm of the College of Veterinary Science, Assam Agricultural University, Khanapara, Guwahati, thirteen number of local as well as crossbred pigs of around one year age of either sex died showing nervous signs. The clinical signs observed were general excitement, hyperthermia, trembling, incoordination and dragging of hind limbs. Some of the animals showed circling movement and partial paralysis of hind limbs. At necropsy, congestion of the brain was evident. Histopathological examination of the brain stem revealed meningoencephalitis with marked lymphocytic infiltration. Focal areas of microabscess formation with aggregates of neutrophils and few macrophages were evident. Presence of perivascular cuffing, satellitosis, neuronophagia and occasional formation of gliosis were striking features. Gram +ve small rods were seen in Brown and Brenn stained sections.
