Abstract Pigeon pox is the common viral disease of pet pigeons which is spread by mosquitoes. Young pigeons (squeakers) are usually most suseptible to the infection. Spontaneous outbreak of pigeon pox was recorded in the five squeakers in Guwahati city of Assam state. Grossly, various sized pox nodules were seen on the eye, foot wings, elbow joint and around the vent, beak and neck region. Visceral regions including lungs, liver, kidneys and heart showed congestion. Intestines showed mucosal haemorrhages. Histopathologically, there were marked epidermal epithelial hyperplasia, necrosis, heamorrage and epithelial cells contained intracytoplasmic inclusion bodies (Bollinger bodies).
