Summary The Chaugarkha is a small sized meat goat breed found in the Uttarakhand state of India. The coat colour of this breed varies from black, fawn and white. The average herd size of Chaugarkha goats ranges from 5 to 30 goats. The average ear length, face length, height at withers, body length, tail length, neck length, heat girth, paunch girth and horn length of adult Chaugarkha goats are 15.50±0.10 cm, 14.30±0.11 cm, 54.13±0.39 cm, 41.13±0.29 cm, 10.70±0.11cm, 16.50±0.16 cm, 61.75±0.63 cm, 84.5±0.90 cm and 7.40±0.17 cm, respectively in females and 14.13±0.10 cm, 17.0±0.20 cm, 65.00±0.63 cm, 48.5±0.56 cm, 12.0±0.09 cm, 18.0±0.16 cm, 69.0±0.87 cm, 78.5±0.86 cm and 7.80±0.09 cm, respectively in males. Kidding takes place one in a year with one or two kids. The udder is small with small pointed teats. The bucks and does are raised together in the same herds all the time with no control on mating.
