Studies on reproductive traits of Bengal goats in a part of West Bengal

Summary

The mean values for the traits of age at first estrus, at first conception and at first kidding as well as estrus and kidding interval were lowest in white colour variety of Bengal she-goats followed by brown and black ones. Service per conception and the incidence of stillbirth were lowest in brown followed by white and black goats, whereas gestation length was lowest in white followed by black and brown goats. The highest percentage of twin birth was noticed at 5th kidding in black, 3rd kidding in white and 2nd kidding in brown Bengal goats. The highest percentage of triplet birth was found at 4th kidding in black and brown and in 3rd kidding in white Bengal goats. Brown coloured goats also had the highest percentage of multiple births followed by white and black coloured goats.
