Kanpur - 208 002. Abstract Identification of training needs is a crucial element. Success of any training programme depends greatly on the correct identification of needs. The present study was conducted in mid hills of Uttarakhand at Dandeswar watershed. In all, 60 farmers were interviewed from three villages of watershed area. Responses were recorded on three-point continuum and were categorized based on meanscore. A list of major and subcomponent of soil and water conservation was prepared to assess the training needs. Among major six components of soiland water conservation, four were categorized as most needed (2.98–2.84) and rest two (2.28–2.15) as needed level of training requirements. Similarly, out of thirty four sub components of soil and water conservation, fourteen were placed under mostneeded (2.88–2.36) category of training requirement, majority of the components(16) were ranked under needed level (2.30–1.80) of training and remaining (4) were rated under not needed (1.62–1.48) level of training by the farmers. Morethan half of the respondents (53.3%) expressed that training should be practical, problem solving and organized at watershed level (40%).
