An Exploration of Socio-Economic status of Farm Households in Eastern and Western Region of Uttar Pradesh Dr. Singh Poonam* *Assistant Professor, Dept. of Economics, SRS Girls PG College, Bareilly, UP Online published on 28 July, 2016. Abstract The study has particularly focused on the state of Uttar Pradesh which contributes a significant part of the agricultural output of the country. The main objective of the study is to explore the socio-economic situation of rural household of different farm size groups in the state. In this paper we analyze the basic characteristics of Farm households, which are the ultimate units upon which rest the whole burden and subsistence of the performance of Agriculture sector. The socio-economic background of the households is very important, as it constitutes the environment, which largely determines the farm production decisions, yields, savings and investment. The study concluded that land is predominantly owned by upper castes. Female contribution in the labour force is missing all through the state and the class and caste system are resilient. The regional variations in investment in agriculture persist in eastern and western regions of Uttar Pradesh.
