Abstract Agriculture is the first culture that man learnt to practice as a means of living and a way of life. The adoption of new technology has given rise to increasing demand for farm credit which is the key factor in, and life blood of agriculture development. The bulk of the loans for agriculture in the developing countries originates in the informal sector and probably is not less than five times the outstanding of institutional credit. So there is a need to discuss on the concept of institutionalization of agricultural credit.
