Performance of broiler chicken as affected by replacement of starter ration with mixed tree leaves meal Das K.C., Malik S., Prabhakaran P., Kalita H.C. College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, Central Agricultural University, Selesih, Aizawl (Mizoram) Abstract An experiment was conducted to evaluate the performance of broiler fed mixed tree leaves meal (MTLM) (Artocarpus heterophylus,Trema orientalis,Macaranga Peltata and Musa sylvatica) at levels of 0, 5,10 and 15 percentage replacing the standard broiler starter ration. The diets were fed ad lib to each group containing 20 unsexed commercial broiler chicks of 2 weeks old. The experiment continued up to 6 weeks of age. The results showed that there was no significant difference (P>0.05) in feed intake, body weight gain, FCR and dressing percentage of the meat when mixed tree leaves (MTLM) was supplemented at 5% level. Moreover, the cost per unit gain is reduced and meat quality in terms of tenderness is improved (P<0.05) at 5% of mixed tree leaves meal (MTLM). The weight gain of broilers were reduced (P<0.05) where as feed intake and cost per unit gain was increased when mixed tree leaves was supplemented at 10 and 15% level. It is concluded that mixed tree leaves meal may be supplemented at the rate of 5% in the standard broiler ration without any adverse effect on production and meat quality.
