Abstract

A study was undertaken on the physical egg quality characteristics in IWD, IWF, IWK and control strain of White Leghorn chickens at 64 weeks of age. Significant strain differences were observed for all the parameters except for specific gravity. The strain IWK was significantly superior to other strains in albumen index (0.09) and shell thickness (0.37rnm). Percent shell was more in IWD strain (9.44) than the other two pure lines and control population. shape index was higher in IWD (72.52). Haugh unit in control strain was better over the other strains. The results indicate that the strain IWK was superior in the internal egg quality traits compared with other strains and the strain IWD was superior in external egg quality traits.
