Assessment of loss due to root-knot disease in bidi tobacco nursery Shah H.M., Patel D.J., Valand G.B. Tobacco Projects, Gujarat Agricultural University, Anand Campus, Anand. Presented at Nematology Symposium held at Coimbatore, India in February, 1981 Abstract The reduction in number of transplants as well as total seedlings is observed due to root-knot disease in bidi tobacco nursery. To estimate this loss, an experiment was conducted from 1978–79 to 1980–81 at the Bidi Tobacco Research Station, Gujarat Agricultural University, Anand Campus, Anand. The nematodes were controlled by rabbing the nursery area during first fortnight of June every year followed by immediate application of DBCP (Nemagon 60 EC) at 15 1 a.i./ha given alongwith irrigation water in 30 cm deep furrows 15 days prior to seeding. Beds kept untreated served as check. The experiment was conducted in paired (AB BA) design with ten replications. The bed size was 1.2 m x 1.2 m. Tobacco variety GT 4 was used. The results indicated that root-knot disease could be reduced to the tune of 74% and loss in terms of number of transplants as well as total seedlings was 51%. Top | |
