Occurrence of Radopholus similis (Cobb, 1893) Thorne, 1949 in Gujarat, India Sethi C. L., Nand Siya, Srivastava A. N. Division of Nematology, Indian Agricultural Research Intstitute, New Delhi-12. Presented at Nematology Symposium held at Coimbatore, India in February, 1981 Abstract In India, burrowing nematode (Radophoius similis) was reported from banana (Nair et al., 1966) and coconut (Weischer, 1967). Koshy et al. (1978) reported its wide spread occurrence on banana, arecanut, coconut and pepper in Kerala. So far this nematode has been found to be confined to southern states of Kerala, Karnatka, Tamilnadu and Andhra Pradesh (Koshy and Nair, 1979). During a preliminary survey of plant parasitic nematode associated with banana in Navsari and adjoining areas of Gujarat, Radopholus similis was rocovered in the soil as well as in the root samples collected from the farm of College of Agriculture, Navsari. Quite a few females were present in the sample but the number of males was less. The light infestation was suggestive of the fact the introduction of Radopholus similis in Gujarat along with the planting materal is recent. The measurements of Gujarat population are as bellow:
