High performance thin layer chromatographic method for detection and determination of chloroquine in forensic samples Tomar Neha1, Shokeen Amar Pal1, Chauhan Amit Kumar1, Shukla S.K.1 1Amity Institute of Forensic Sciences, Amity University, Noida Online published on 1 May, 2020. Abstract Chloroquine is commonly used medicine in the treatment of complicated malaria caused due to Plasmodium falciparum. The drug is also widely used for treating extra intestinal amoebiosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and other autoimmune diseases. Despite its great contribution in the prophylaxis against diseases, Chloroquine has reported to foster adverse effects in case of over dosage. The drug has been reported to manifest fatal effects in the recurrent malaria infection. The present study aims to extract chloroquine from vomit with the help of liquid-liquid extraction technique and identify the compound using high performance Thin layer Chromatography. The drug was extracted using chloroform: ether in 3: 1 ratio followed by HPTLC. The peak generated was identified as Chloroquine. Top Keywords Chloroquine, Plasmodium falciparum, malaria, HPTLC, Chloroform, ether. Top | |
