A total of 54 fused hyoid bones specimens (35 male, 19 female) were recovered to examine shape and symmetry variations. The variations of shape of the hyoid were classified into five types: U-shaped hyoid bone observed in 31.7% (19 bones), H-type in 9.3% (5 bones), a B-type hyoid in 11.6% (6 bones), a Dtype hyoid in 20.4% (11 bones) and a V-type bone in 24.1% (13 bones) of all samples. This study provides a preliminary data in the morphological variations of hyoid bone. Top Keywords Hyoid bone, morphology, shapes of hyoid, autopsy, symmetrical. Top |
