Abstract

Five clones of Langra, two of Dushehari and four elite seedlings were identified from Uttar Pradesh. Fruit samples were evaluated for antioxidant content and physico-chemical quality parameters. Results revealed a wide clonal variation in quality parameters in these two varieties. Out of Dushehari clones, the clone K-1 collected from Kunda Tehsil of Pratapgarh district showed promise with big fruit, high pulp recovery, high vitamin C content, thick peel, abundant juice, pleasant aroma and low acidity. Langra clone (V-3) collected from Sarnath, Varanasi bore heavy fruit with high pulp recovery and small stone. An elite seedling locally known as Naudha collected from Yakutganj, Farrukhabad with medium fruit size, reddish and thick peel, pleasant aroma and high pulp content appeared promising for sucking purpose.
