Epidemiological Aspects of Trypanosoma Evansi Infection in Horses Mavadiya S.V., Raval S.K., Mehta S.A. Department of Veterinary Medicine, College of Veterinary Science & Animal HusbandryAnand Agricultural University, Anand-388 001. Abstract Epidemiological aspects of equine surra were investigated in Gujarat. The diagnosis of Trypanosoma evansi infection was based on the examination of Giemsa stained blood smears. A total 39 blood smears were examined for presence of Trypanosoma evansi. The prevalence was found to the extent of 28.21 per cent. The prevalence rate was high in Kathiyawari breed (38.86%), in female (46.67%), in poor health condition (31.27%), in good hygiene condition (14.28%) and in kachcha housing (33.33%). The highest number of positive samples (5 out of 9) for Trypanosoma evansi (55.56%) was recorded high during the month of November probably due to increased vector- Tick population following rain in August.
