Determinants associated with the likelihood of accepting covid-19 vaccine: An Indian perspective

Abstract

India as one of the most populated country has always been front runner in vaccinating its citizens. But the growing demand for COVID-19 vaccination within a short span of time has raised doubts about the efficacy and acceptance among common man. Although immunization coverage will be administered by the government in India but there is a need to understand the acceptability among individuals. The aim of this paper was to analyze the individual's acceptance towards COVID-19 vaccine. This data driven analysis has examined the individual's perceived acceptance of COVID-19 vaccination by considering various potential factors; risk perception, perceived knowledge of vaccine, perceived social influence, perceived source of trust based on online survey data from 832 respondents across India using a Liket scale based questionnaire. The survey was done between the months of October 1^st, 2020 to December 15^th, 2020 across India. Our findings suggested that the acceptance of vaccine is influenced majorly by the Risk perception of COVID-19, followed by Knowledge of its vaccine, Social influence and Source of trust. It was also observed that the highest percentage of individuals believes that vaccination is must, seconded by the thought that it will save them from getting infected and reduce the fear from COVID-19. Through research it is also found that more than fifty percent people perceive that the infection due to COVID-19 is highly.
