Abstract

To assess specific immune-effector activities of Catla catla against motile aeromonas species (MAS), experimental infection was developed in laboratory maintained catla using intraperitoneal injection with live Aeromonas hydrophila at a concentration of 3.6x106 cfu/ml. Specific humoral and cellular immune responses were measured at 5th and 15th day post inoculation (PI) by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and leucocyte proliferation assay, respectively. A. hydrophila sensitized catla showed dynamic changes in immune-effector activities in first 15 days PI period. Antigen specific humoral and cellular immune responses were gradually increased in latter phase (15th day PI). Immunodominant polypeptide antigens of A. hydrophila of molecular weight of 68 and 66 kDa and 56 and 39 kDa, respectively, were identified using Westernblot and cellular blotting techniques. These polypeptides might be considered as important target antigens during immunodiagnostic and/or immunoprophylactic preparations against MAS in catla.
