Induction of TLR-3 expression in IBD virus challenged chickens from genetically different background Kumar B.S. Ananda, Dandapat S., Kumar P., Kumar S., Principal Scientist & Incharge, CIF, Ram G.C., Emeritus Scientist Immunology Section, Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar-243122, (Uttar Pradesh). satyadandapat2008@hotmail.com Abstract The present study was designed to study the role of TLR-3 in relative disease resistance to IBD virus infection in the indigenous Kadaknath and White-leghorn chicken. Macrophages and splenocytes isolated from IBD virus challenged and Poly I:C inoculated birds of both the breeds were analyzed for TLR-3 expression pattern. Macrophages from IBD challenged Kadaknath breed showed maximum of 3.59 fold increase in TLR-3 expression at 24th hr interval and moderate expression of 2.17 fold at 12th hr interval as compared to white leghorn. In case of splenocytes, IBD challenged Kadaknath breed showed maximum of 20.11 fold increase in TLR-3 expression at 24th hr of interval and moderate expression of 5.37 fold at 12th hr interval. Between the breeds the IBD virus induced TLR-3 expression was more in Kadaknath as compared to White leghorn. In Kadaknath breed the poly I: C could induce only 5 and 2 fold increase of TLR-3 expression in splenocytes at the same intervals as compared to IBD virus, showing natural infection can induce more of TLR-3 expression than synthetic analogs.
