Abstract

Cervidae were screened for the presence of Chlamydia psittaci infection. Thirteen isolates (3 from tissues and 10 from faeces) of Chlamydia psittaci were recovered from a total of 55 samples comprising both tissue (4) and faecal samples (51) from five different species of ungulates such as barking deer, hog deer, musk deer, sambhar and spotted deer. Out of 51 faecal samples and four tissue samples, 10 faecal and three tissue samples revealed presence of Chlamydia psittaci. The chlamydiae were confirmed by staining with different methods and by indirect micro-immunoflurescence test (IMIFT).
