Histomicrometry of respiratory air-ways during postnatal lung in goat (Capra hircus) Suman, Gupta A.N., Jain R.K. Department of Anatomy and Histology, College of Veterinary Science, CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar-125 004, India. Abstract Micrometric studies on respiratory airways of postnatal lung were done in twenty goats of either sex with five age groups. The average diameter and epithelial height in all respiratory segments (respiratory bronchiole, alveolar duct, alveolar sac, alveolus) exhibited an abrupt increase in goats of 2 to 3 months of age over below one month of age and became static with further advancement of age. However, thickness of blood air barrier was maximum (12.44±0.58 mm) in goats below one month and recorded thinnest (7.52±0.41 mm) in goats of 10 to 12 months of age providing most efficient diffusion pathway resulting in slow respiration rate in adults as compared to new born kids.
