Studies on housing and breeding management practices adopted by goat owners in tribal area of Udaipur district

Abstract

Study was conducted in 6 villages of Udaipur district of Rajasthan. Personal interview schedule was constructed on randomly selected 120 goat owners from two tribal tehsil i.e. Mavli and Jhadol. Data were collected and analysed. The profile of the sample respondents in the study revealed that majority of the respondents were belonged to Schedule Tribe, illiterate and medium size of family. Goats housed near dwelling, loose housing as well as open yard is common housing practices adopted by respondents. Bellowing is main symptom known by respondents for heat detection. Mounting on other goats and frequent urination is less known. Flock mating is adopted, non-descript community buck was used for breeding purpose. Animal come in heat generally during monsoon season. Single birth was common and placenta was disposed off either by throwing or by buring in heap of dirt.
