Pharmacokinetics and distribution of pefloxacin in biological fluids of lactating goats after intravenous administration Ansari M.K., Sinha S.P., Jayachandran C., Singh M.K. Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology, Bihar Veterinary College, Patna-800 014, India. Abstract Pharmacokinetic study of pefloxacin (4 mg/kg i.v.) in goats revealed peak concentrations of 9.06±1.30, 4.29±0.32 and 46.45±2.16 μg/ml were attained at 5,45 and 45 min in plasma, milk and urine. The therapeutic concentration (≥0.12 μg/ml) was maintained upto 8, 8 and 30 hr in plasma, milk and urine. The mean distribution half life (t½α), elimination half life (t½β) and total body clearance (Cl8) of 0.27±0.06 hr, 3.53±2.26 hr and 5.07±1.15 ml.kg−1 min−1 were estimated. A high Vd area of 1.59±0.42 L/kg and tissue to plasma concentration ratio (T∼P) of 1.46±0.26 indicate that the drug is well distributed. Top | |
