ABSTRACT

One hundred and sixty broiler chicks (one week old) were allocated to twelve groups and fed diets supplemented with graded levels of 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50g/qtl. of the herb Jiwanti. Diets for starter (1–3 weeks) and finisher phase (4–6 weeks) were formulated separately. Final body weight, gain in weight and feed consumption were significantly (P≤0.05) higher in experimental groups than in control group during both phases as well as in entire growth period, however, variation among groups for feed conversion ratio was not significant. Supplementationof Jiwanti did not affect crude fibre digestibility and N retention among groups but the digestibility of ether extract was improved (P≤0.05) following the supplementation of 50 g. No significant differences were obtained for meat: bone ratio, carcass fat, and weight of vital organs.
