Moringa as natural galactogogue and alternative fodder for dairy cow

Abstract

Moringa is a natural galactagogue, has potential nutritional value to replace costly protein supplements in balanced ration. It grows in ail types of soil, from acid to alkaline, at altitudes from sea level to 1800 m and is drought tolerant. Contains 23% crude protein, 12.3 MJ ME/kg in DM and in vitro DM digestibility of 79.7%. Fresh leaves of Moringa in comparision with carrot has 4 times Vitamin A, 7 times Vitamin C of Orange, 4 times calcium of Milk, 3 times Potassium of Banana, 2 times protein of Yoghurt. Moringa leaves have been included into the diets of many different animals like goats, sheep, dairy cow, chicken and rabbit with positive effect. Owing to its beneficial effect it can be used as an alternative fodder for dairy cow.
