Abstract The Brus are the minority ethnic tribe found in the western fringes of Mizoram. Though there is a fair level of economic status of the people of Mizoram, inequality based on livelihood persists among the minority tribes, especially among the Bru tribes. The paper tries to assess the nature, causes and consequence of this inequality as reflected in the social, economic and political behavior of the Brus. The present study is based on primary data collected during 2017 and 2018. Application of suitable quantitative techniques, comparison of selected indicators and cartography give commendable results in regards to social status of the people in consideration. Acquired from the composite score of each indicator, Mamit district scores the highest, Lawngtlai and Lunglei stood second and Kolasib district scores the least. The study reveals that there is a high negative correlation between quality of life and voting behavior among the Bru ethnic population. Top Keywords Bru, Mizoram, Livelihood, Voting Behaviour. Top |
