The British decided to grant independence to India and on June 3, 1947, the partition plan was presented. In it, it was stated that while deciding the policy towards the Princely States, the decision towards it would be taken as per the Cabinet Mission Plan of 1946. It was made clear that when British India would became independent, the 'sovereignty' of the British rule would cease and all powers transferred to the sovereign would revert to the states, leaving the states free to decide whether to join India or Pakistan or remain independent. Before 1947, many Princely States joined India or Pakistan. But the task of carrying out the complicated process of their integration was to be done by the Government of independent India. In this process, the roles taken by the states of Junagadh, Hyderabad and Kashmir created great political complications for the newly independent India. In this research paper, the role of Junagadh, the decision taken by its Nawab to merge with Pakistan, the public opinion there and the impact on the then events have been studied.
