Abstract Ichthyological field survey conducted from January to December 2011 in the river Jamuna of Karbi Anglong district revealed the occurrence of bewildering diversity of fishes. River Jamuna is one of the tributaries of Brahmaputra river system of Assam which flows through various geographical terrains of Karbi Anglong district. It portrayed 36 species of fishes belonging to 7 major orders. Of these Cyprinidae family belonging to the order Cypriniformes dominates the river.
